Dan Shout is a respected, sought-after jazz saxophonist based in Cape Town, South Africa. He is most renowned as a session saxophonist and for his seven-year stint with Johnny Clegg.

Dan has performed in over 30 countries across five continents. A few of his career highlights include performing at the North Sea Jazz Festival in The Hague, a multitude of national and international performances with Johnny Clegg, including the Soccer World Cup in Germany; Rugby World Cup in France; Nelson Mandela's 46664 Concert at Ellis Park; Festival Rhythm Africaine in Bastille, Paris for Bastille Day; with Juluka and Savuka for the Johnny Clegg 30th Anniversary Concerts; Festival Paleo in Nyon, Switzerland; the Montreal Jazz Festival in Canada; meeting and performing for the Prince and Princess of Monaco at the Monaco Opera House and the Johnny Clegg “Human” tours to Australasia, France, U.S.A. and Canada.

Other highlights include performing with the Awesome Big Band featuring Steve Turre (U.S.A) conducted by Bruce Cassidy (Canada), with multi-Grammy Award winning composer, Maria Schneider (U.S.A) and Ensemble Denada (Norway) at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown and Victoria Jazz Club in Oslo (Norway) as well as performances with Gordon Vernick (U.S.A.), AJ Brown (U.K.), Linley Hamilton (U.K.), Paul Booth (U.K), Frode Nymo (Norway), Marcus Wyatt (S.A.), "In With a Shout" at the Wigan and Edinburgh International Jazz Festivals (U.K.), as part of the stage band for the Presidential Inauguration Cultural Concert at the Union Buildings in Pretoria conducted by James Bassingthwaighte and conducting the South African National Schools Big Band at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown (2016).

Dan has a Masters Degree With Distinction in Jazz Performance from the South African College of Music at the University of Cape Town. In addition to his work as a session musician, he is a part-time lecturer at his alma mater (Saxophone, Jazz Styles & Analysis, Ensemble & Improv), and presents workshops at conferences, festivals and music clinics both in South Africa and abroad.
